message.."you may be a victim of software conterfiting"????
I purchased a laptop a little over a year ago that cam with Windows 7 preinstalled. Now it is telling me "you may be a victim of software conterfiting"???? I also need to find out if there is a way to re obtain my product code, I thought it was in the info that came with the laptop however it didn't. It was on a label that was on the bottom of my laptop and has faded way too much to read it. I am assuming that this is something I will need to fix this issue? Help???

Does the laptop not come with a System Recovery partition so you could rebuild the laptop into the Pre-installed OS?Lee Bowman MCITP MCTS

Hi, First, regarding the product key, if the product key on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is faded, please refer to the following link: How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs, and replace product manuals Regarding the "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting" message, I would like to explain that an update named Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) is released for Windows 7 system. Customer can download this update from Windows Update or Microsoft Download Center. After installing the update, the validation process will be started and it will check for over 70 known activation exploits. If any activation exploits was detected, the non-genuine notification will be displayed. The notification indicating that a copy of Windows is not genuine may occur if any of the following conditions are true: 1. A non-genuine Product Key was used to install the system and the system was activated by using activation exploit. 2. The local settings are incorrect. 3. Some third-party security software blocks access to the Windows Update site. Please be assured that the purpose of WAT is to protect the rights of genuine copy users. I will do my best to assist you in resolving this issue. Thank you for your understanding. Before moving on, please let me know how the system was activated? Is it activated from internet or by phone. Since the problem could be caused by the activation exploit, the above information will be helpful for us to determine the root cause. In addition, let’s take the following steps to test the issue. Suggestions 1: Test the issue in Clean Boot. After that, please restart the computer and validate the system again to check if the issue still persists. Suggestions 2: Run the MGA Diagnostic Tool to troubleshoot this issue =============================================== 1. Please open Internet Explorer and visit the following link to download the MGA Diagnostic Tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 2. Save the "MGADiag.exe" file to the "Desktop", and then double click on the file to run the tool. 3. Click the “Continue” button. 4. Under the “Windows” tab, click the "Resolve" button if it is highlighted. 5. Restart the computer and visit the following website to validate Windows again. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en More information: Genuine Windows 7 Product Information Additionally, you may contact our Windows Genuine Advantage support via the following link, which is free of charge: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=9860&st=1&wfxredirect=1&sd=gn Regards, Sabrina This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
